Tourism between the Philippines and Japan prove its resilience amid the economic global scenario as activities still abound. During these challenging times, we see all the more that working together is important to spur growth in the industry,” said Ace Durano, Secretary of Tourism. Cebu Pacific’s stimulus package, launched second week of August for Osaka to Manila via Kansai International Airport, offers four days and three nights (4D/3N) from Y39, 800 to Y47, 800 or $422 - $507, which already covers round-trip fare with accommodation, transfers, and tours. The Department of Tourism or DOT said a portion of the bordering hill at the Caticlan airport will be tapered first, to remove the obstacle near the runway and accelerate the reopening of the airport to larger aircraft by September 2009.
Under the initial phase of runway rehabilitation, the project involves contouring of the bordering hill, as an alternative to flattening out the mound which will take four to five months, according to Tourism Secretary Ace Durano.
Contouring the bordering hill will remove the obstacle that prevents the full use of 950-meter runway and ensure that the Caticlan airport reopens in September. Pilots had to make difficult flight maneuver for steep ascent to avoid getting close to the hill, he said.

Data from the Bureau of Immigration show that a total of 1.22 million foreigners arrived in the country from January to May 2009, compared to 1.31 million who arrived in the same period last year.
