Costa Cruises in Manila

PDF Print E-mail

Costa Allegra Southeast AsiaThe Philippines expects to welcome 18,000 cruise passengers this year from 15 visits of Costa Cruises, Europe’s top cruise  company.

In a statement, the Tourism Department said the figure is almost twice the 10,000 passengers from Costa Cruises who visited Manila last year.

“Cruise ship tourists are a valuable segment of our arrivals as they come from the high-spending, silver markets of Europe and the US. I am pleased to note that beginning October of this year, Costa Cruises will upgrade to a bigger vessel that carries twice the number of passengers on board,” Tourism Secretary Ace Durano said.

Durano said Costa Cruises can carry 1,600 passengers for each trip, which is a two-fold increase from the 800 passenger-capacity of Costa Allegra.

Ms. Jenica Ferrer, Sales and Operations Officer of Costa Cruises in Manila, said the liner has augmented its scheduled ports of call at South Harbor in Manila compared to last year’s record.

Tourism Undersecretary Eduardo Jarque Jr. said the Philippines has been cited by guests for having the warmest arrival reception from among the ship’s destinations.

Jarque said passengers arriving in Manila are treated to spectacular cultural performances, trips to Corregidor, Tagaytay and Pagsanjan, heritage tour and shopping in Manila.
