The province, which placed 39th in terms of revenue with only PhP655 million in 2004, is now the 10th richest province in the Philippines after doubling its 2004 revenue. This was credited to the entrepreneurial skills of Governor Lray Villafuerte who developed the CamSur Watersports Complex (CWC), which is now a world famous water sports destination. A recent visit to Batangas province has been a rewarding experience for our small group of trekkers looking for a unique weekend just outside Metro Manila. The Philippine Insurers and Reinsurers Association (PIRA) made the trip possible.
The group headed south, about 80 kilometers from Manila, via the South Luzon Expressway (SLEX) and Southern Tagalog Arterial Road (STAR) Tollway until we reached the idyllic lakeshore town of Talisay, where flowers bloom all around.
At the Club Balai Isabel, we stayed overnight and feasted on the resort's local cuisines. Balai Isabel, built on an 11-hectare lakeside property, attracts foreign and local tourists alike. It has townhomes designed for rich investors who wish to have their own piece of paradise and a five-story condotel for guests. |

Banaue Rice Terraces, which has been recently named as one of the 50 greatest travel destinations in the world, has gained another distinction on the pages of TNT, one of the top travel magazines in the United Kingdom. The premier travel and lifestyle magazine came out with a four-page, full-color article, and a front-page mention of the rice terraces.
