SM to open Radisson Hotel

SM Investments Corp. plans to open its PhP3-billion five-star hotel in Cebu City by the second half of the year. The company said Radisson Blu Hotel Cebu.  , a project of its wholly-owned unit SM Hotels and Conventions Corp., would start operation at the city’s North Reclamation Area right beside SM City Cebu shopping mall complex.
The 400-room hotel is designed to attract both the business and leisure traveler. It has 10 function rooms, two ballrooms, a spa and fitness centre, a lobby lounge, dining restaurant and the largest outdoor free-form swimming pool in Cebu City.  “The hotel is envisioned to be one of Cebu’s leading international upscale hotels and the destination of choice for leisure activities, corporate events, conferences, and weddings and other social gatherings,” the company said.

Baguio’s new attraction

Tree Top Adventure Philippines (TTA), the Subic-based company that operates canopy ride, Superman ride, Silver Surfer and Interactive Free Fall will be offering Camp John Hay tourists in Baguio City the same thrills by October 2010.
This time, Tree Top’s rides would allow tourists to accelerate above the pine trees and touch the crows, and then to plunge suddenly from a height of 120 feet.   “Only some of the rides would be longer and more exciting and the views more dramatic and breathtaking,” said Mr. Mario Montejo, CEO of Tree Top Adventure.

Underground River as World Wonder

Filipinos are encouraged to vote for the Philippines' Puerto Princesa Underground River as one of the world’s Seven New Wonders of Nature, according to Manila Bulletin.  The Subterranean River Natural Park, also known as the Underground River, is the only Philippine entry that qualified for the global search.  From over 440 participating locations in 220 countries, the Underground River was chosen as one of the 28 finalists for the final voting to determine the Seven New Wonders of Nature that will be announced on 11th November 2011.

Taal off limits to tourists

Authorities have warned resort operators against bringing tourists to Pulo Island, near the crater of the restive Taal volcano in Batangas province.
The Philippine Coast Guard issued the warning after Alert level 2 was hoisted over Taal volcano, which means that it is experiencing magmatic intrusion that may lead to an eruption.
Despite earlier warnings from government volcanologists, foreign tourists were still coming to the island, often hiring horses to ride up to the volcano’s crater, local Coast Guard personnel said.  Mostly South Koreans and some Japanese were visiting the restive volcano, they added.

Cebu named as honeymoon site

Cebu was cited as the “Best Honeymoon Destination” during the World Trade Fair 2010 in Shanghai, China, according to a report by BusinessMirror.  Tourism Secretary Ace Durano welcomed the award which was given by the Shanghai Tourism Municipal  Administration, VNU Exhibitions Asia and Shanghai International Conference Management Organisation.
“As the second most-visited destination in the country, next to Metro Manila, Cebu continues to draw more people to add to the 435,987 tourists that it posted in this year’s first quarter. We are not surprised that more and more travellers, especially couples, are finding its pristine white beaches, romantic resorts and breathtaking views, coupled with the innate warmth and friendliness of our locals, a perfect treat for their honeymoon trip,” Secretary Durano was quoted as saying.
