Hilton and Sheraton in Manila

Integrated resort and gaming developer Travellers International Hotel Group expects to open two new luxury hotels—355-room Hilton and 390-room Sheraton—at Resorts World Manila (RWM) in Newport City by the fourth quarter of 2017.
 
Westin is also expected to re-enter the Philippine hotel market by 2018 with the opening of a 600-room hotel at Travellers’ second integrated resort complex Bayshore City Resorts World. Also at the Bayshore project, another upcoming hotel brand is luxury Japanese hotel operator Okura.

PAL flying to New York in March 2015

Philippine Airlines (PAL) will start flying to New York City on 15th March 2015, according to a report by ABS-CBN. PAL Chairman and CEO Lucio C. Tan said the auspicious start of regular flights to New York will coincide with PAL's 74th founding anniversary.  PAL resumes its flights to the East Coast, around 18 years after it pulled out of the region in 1997.
 
The New York flight, which will take approximately 16.5 total flying hours, will be PAL's longest route.

AirAsia returns to Clark

AirAsia has revived flights from the Clark International Airport to Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.
 
The carrier said in a statement the new service, using the Malaysian carrier’s flagship AirAsia Berhad, would fly four times a week between Clark and Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.
 

KidZania Manila opening in 2015

The groundbreaking formally commenced actual construction and development of the second Resorts World property in the country, with the completion date expected in the fourth quarter of 2018.  
 

Mayon eruption attacts tourists

Hotels in Albay province have enjoyed full occupancy as tourists and thrill seekers have flocked to the province to witness the expected eruption of Mayon Volcano.
 
Albay Governor Jose Clemente Salceda said the provincial tourism business is doing well, just like in July 2009 when the volcano, known for its perfect cone, lasterupted.  During that period, the province was able to record some 47,000 tourist arrivals in just one month, Mr. Salceda said.
 

Japan Eases Visa for Filipinos

The changes to visa requirements, which will also apply to Indonesia and Vietnam, were announced at a meeting for the promotion of Japan as a tourism-oriented country.

Visitor arrivals rise 6.3 percent

International visitor arrivals in the Philippines August 2014 rose at its fastest pace this year, helped by the government’s intensified marketing campaign and the continued development of tourism infrastructure projects nationwide.
 
Data from the Department of Tourism (DOT) show that foreign visitor arrivals climbed 6.3 percent in August, with Korean nationals still leading the pack.  For the first eight months of 2014, the number of tourists reached nearly 3.27 million, up by just 2.7 percent from the same period last year.
