Skyjet Flights to Boracay

SkyJet Airlines has launched the fastest flights and only jet-service from Manila to Boracay Island via Caticlan Airport on 15th April 2014. The airline began operating the route with three flights per week.

Siargao Island

This newly discovered island boasts of white-sand beaches and surfing waves compared to that of Hawaii. Lying 800 kilometers southeast of Manila, the tear-shaped Siargao Island is a perfect haven for the sun, sea, and surf buffs. It lies on the eastern portion of Surigao del Norte and on the southeastern tip of Mindanao. The island is a mass of tropical land with scores of reefs, points and white beaches.

El Nido wins award for tourism

El Nido Resorts in Palawan has received an award during the recently held Wild Asia Responsible Tourism Awards.  The resort said it won the “Mid to Small Accommodation” category at the Wild Asia awards programme held in October 2009.  Other 2009 Responsible Tourism Award winners are the ITC Mughal in India for the “Large to Mid-Size Accommodation” category and the Sunderbans Jungle Camp also in India for the “Community-based to Homestay Operators” category.

Puerto Galera (which means Galleon Port) is one of the most popular beach resorts in the Philippines. A marine reserve, it is endowed with coves, fine sandy beaches and shallow coral reefs ideal for snorkeling.

A few hours south of Manila, is one of the most famous provinces in Luzon, Batangas. Known for its Kapeng Barako and the famous Balisong or fan knife, Batangas also boasts of its share of tourist attractions, beaches and historical locations.

Puerto Galera Port

The Department of Tourism (DOT) is working with the Maritime Industry Authority (Marina) and the Puerto Galera local government for the best way to ease boat congestion at the tourist spot.  Tourism Secretary Alberto Lim said that docking of boats anywhere on the beach has become a concern because it disturbs guests and endangers those wading or swimming by the beach.  That is why they are studying what will work best given the local conditions in Puerto Galera. 

Philippines Coral Reefs

About 1,000 square kilometres or just 5 percent of the Philippines’ total reef area remain in good condition.  It was estimated that the total reef area of the Philippines could be anywhere between 19,000 to 27,000 square kilometres, depending on the territorial boundaries and depth ranges, according to a report by BusinessMirror.
