Siargao among best surf spots

Siargao n Surigao del Norte was ranked the eighth best surf spot in the world, according to the travel news website of the Cable News Network (CNN).  The list was compiled by CNNGo writer and "avid surfer" Jade Bremmer.

"This dramatic and powerful reef break, which crashes onto shallow razor-sharp coral, offers right and left death rides to those who dare. Those who do will experience a slice of paradise, or magic mushroom-like hallucinations, as the wave wraps over them like a Cornish pasty-shaped cocoon of water. Don't slip, or your skin and bones will be ripped to shreds by the ocean bed," Mr. Bremmer said about Siargao's famous "Cloud Nine".

 

Boracay Among Top 20 Destinations for Chinese Tourists

Boracay Island, the famous resort island in Aklan, Philippines, ranked as the 16th of the top 20 most popular destinations for Chinese travellers in July and August 2013, according to TripAdvisor.

SkyJet Airlines has launched the fastest flights and only jet-service from Manila to Boracay Island via Caticlan Airport on 15th April 2014. The airline began operating the route with three flights per week.

This newly discovered island boasts of white-sand beaches and surfing waves compared to that of Hawaii. Lying 800 kilometers southeast of Manila, the tear-shaped Siargao Island is a perfect haven for the sun, sea, and surf buffs. It lies on the eastern portion of Surigao del Norte and on the southeastern tip of Mindanao. The island is a mass of tropical land with scores of reefs, points and white beaches.

El Nido wins award for tourism

El Nido Resorts in Palawan has received an award during the recently held Wild Asia Responsible Tourism Awards.  The resort said it won the “Mid to Small Accommodation” category at the Wild Asia awards programme held in October 2009.  Other 2009 Responsible Tourism Award winners are the ITC Mughal in India for the “Large to Mid-Size Accommodation” category and the Sunderbans Jungle Camp also in India for the “Community-based to Homestay Operators” category.
