Tourism Star Philippines

The Department of Tourism (DoT) has launched a new effort to boost visitor arrivals in the country by recognising people who have exhibited their commitment to tourism development with their investments, or excellent customer service.

The DOT unveiled its “Tourism Star Philippines,” which are awards meant to drive home the unique virtues of hospitality, fun and creativity of tourism projects that make visiting the Philippines a unique experience for tourists.

Tourism Secretary Ramon Jimenez Jr. said this would give due recognition to individuals who have direct contact with tourists and who go the extra mile to give them a delightful experience.  “The rationale for this campaign is simple. While other countries invite you to observe, the Philippines can promise a more heartfelt experience. Wherever you go, whatever you do in the country, it’s the Filipinos who will complete your vacation and will make your holiday unforgettable,” he said.

The programme, he added, is consistent with what the government’s “It’s More Fun in the Philippines” brand campaign was referring to in showcasing what the country truly has to offer.

“Around the world, Filipinos are known to be one of the happiest and warmest people on the planet. This experience of the Filipino people bears the mark of the Filipino Culture of Tourism,” he said.

The objective of Tourism Star Philippines, the DOT chief said, is to instil a “culture of tourism in every Filipino, and motivate them to extend an efficient, professional, and thoughtful service to tourists, given with genuine warmth and hospitality.”
