Mayon eruption attacts tourists
Hotels in Albay province have enjoyed full occupancy as tourists and thrill seekers have flocked to the province to witness the expected eruption of Mayon Volcano.
Albay Governor Jose Clemente Salceda said the provincial tourism business is doing well, just like in July 2009 when the volcano, known for its perfect cone, lasterupted. During that period, the province was able to record some 47,000 tourist arrivals in just one month, Mr. Salceda said.
Despite the rise in visitor arrivals, he continued to urge tourists, as well as residents who act as tourist guides, to keep away from the six-kilometre permanent danger zone.
