Shangri-La Boracay Opens

The opening of Shangri-La’s Boracay Resort and Spa has uplifted the tourism experience in Boracay Island, with its 217 rooms, high-end facilities and amenities, according to the Department of Tourism (DOT). The total cost of the new resort amounted to PhP4 billion.

Other new resort-hotel facilities that have opened on the island are Crown Regency (449 rooms), Phoenix Hotel (130 rooms), Boracay Regency Lagoon (120 rooms), Seven Stones (100 rooms), and Grand Water (100 rooms). New facilities are under construction, with the local government of Malay reporting PhP902 million worth of new investment in 2009. Tourist volume in Boracay was up 2.4 percent to 649,559 in 2009.
