Liloan, Cebu Celebrates Rosquillos Festival and Inaugurates Pier 88

The charming town of Liloan in Cebu celebrated the enchanting Rosquillos Festival on May 27, concluding the annual event with a grand showcase of its rich heritage and cultural pride. The festival, graced by Vice President Sara Duterte and DOT Secretary Christina Garcia Frasco, not only delighted taste buds with the famous Rosquillos delicacy but also underscored the vital role of festivals and heritage in promoting tourism.

Vice President Duterte commended Liloan’s emphasis on local tourism and acknowledged the town as a promising tourism destination. Secretary Frasco, a proud Liloan native, expressed her passion for her hometown and highlighted the importance of festivals in promoting local culture and fostering tourism growth.

The Rosquillos Festival featured captivating activities, including cultural performances and native delicacies, immersing visitors in the vibrant culture of Liloan. Secretary Frasco stressed the festival’s success in showcasing Liloan’s heritage while stimulating economic growth by attracting tourists.

In a historic event, the festival was preceded by the inauguration of Pier 88, a waterfront destination in Liloan. The ceremony was attended by President Ferdinand ‘Bongbong’ Marcos Jr. and Vice President Sara Duterte, signifying a significant milestone for tourism and local economic development.

President Marcos Jr. noted that Pier 88 reflects the government’s dedication to boosting economic growth not only in Liloan but also in neighboring areas. The inauguration aligns with the administration’s vision to empower provinces and encourage inclusive development throughout the country. The pier is expected to serve as a local economic hub, creating job opportunities and attracting investments.

Situated in the picturesque coastal town of Liloan, Pier 88 offers breathtaking views of the azure waters and the Cebu skyline. The port project, conceptualized in 2015 and inaugurated in 2019, aims to ease traffic in the north, providing an alternative mode of transport and improving the quality of life for Cebuanos.

The joint venture between the local government of Liloan and Topline Group of Companies, covered by a Public-Private Partnership (PPP) agreement, showcases a perfect blend of natural beauty and modern amenities. The pier features a spacious boardwalk, dining options with local culinary delights, and vibrant retail outlets.

In attendance at the inauguration were Tourism Secretary Frasco, Transportation Secretary Jimmy Bautista, House Speaker Martin Romualdez, Deputy Speaker Raymond Mendoza, Cebu Gov. Gwen Garcia, and other Congressmen and Mayors of Cebu.

The events of the Rosquillos Festival and the inauguration of Pier 88 mark significant milestones for Liloan, reinforcing its commitment to preserving heritage, promoting tourism, and contributing to the economic development of the region.
