New airport in Cavite
The Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) has endorsed Sangley Airbase in Cavite province as the site of a new international airport that will replace the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA).
Transportation Secretary Joseph Emilio Abaya said JICA recommended Sangley as the long-term international gateway.
Secretary Abaya said JICA can now begin working on a feasibility study, with the aim of inaugurating a new airport by 2025. He said Sangley met most of the parameters set by the government, and the agency was leaning toward pursuing it.
Meanwhile, San Miguel Corp. proposed to build its own airport at Manila Bay at a cost of US$10 billion to address the requirements of airline units Philippine Airlines and PAL Express.
Both JICA and SMC's proposal would entail reclaiming a portion of the Bacoor Bay and Manila Bay
