Ilocos Wind Mills

Ilocos wind mills in BanguiOriginally designed to only produce clean electricity, the Northwind Bangui Wind Farm, otherwise known as the Ilocos wind mills, has also become a famous tourist attraction on its own in Ilocos Norte province. Some people call them giant electric fans, which are visible from the highway leading to the beach resort of Pagudpud.

With the addition of the Bangui wind mills in Bangui to its growing list of tourist attractions, Ilocos Norte has become a major tourist destination in Luzon, thanks to its white-sand beaches in Pagudpud, the beautiful Baroque churches including the Paoay Church, the hotel complex at Fort Ilocandia, the houses and other facilities owned by the late President Ferdinand Marcos in Batac, the Sand Dunes in Laoag, the Kapurpurawan white rock formation and Cape Bojeador Lighthouse in Burgos.

Subic Bay Mall

 

Subic Bay Freeport may allow the construction of a casino and shopping mall inside the Freeport by 2012 to strengthen the area’s appeal to tourists, according to a report by BusinessWorld.  Subic Bay Metropolitan Authority (SBMA) also wanted the Freeport to be included in the Asian Cruise Terminals Association’s (ACTA) list of destinations.

Seda Hotel Bacolod

Seda Hotel chain of the Ayala Group is considering expanding its network to Bacolod City upon the completion next year of Seda Atria in Iloilo, its first property in the Visayas.
 
“We are studying the viability of opening a hotel here because we believe Bacolod City is a potential location for our Seda hotels,” said Mr. Andrea Mastellone, Seda group general manager. “We would love to have a Seda flag in Bacolod. We are working on it and hopefully one day we will.”

"We have to brand it as one destination," said Wee Hong Seng, president of the Sarawak Tourism Federation. BIMP-EAGA is a sub-regional group of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) formed in 1994 to help develop the economic well-being of the member countries through various tourism and trade exchanges and programs.

Arrivals top 3 million

International tourism receipts in the Philippines surged 41 percent year-on-year to about $4.9 billion in 2007, as international visitor arrivals grew 8.7 percent to a record 3.092 million.

From Escolta, one can proceed to the San Miguel district, known for its Spanish-style houses and the Malacañang Palace, seat of the Philippine government. This ornate Spanish colonial palace, with its arches and balconies, was built as a private country house in the late 18th century and purchased by the government in 1825. At first the governor-general's summer residence, it became his permanent residence in 1863, after the Palacio Real in Intramuros was destroyed by an earthquake. In 1986, the palace museum was opened for the public. Visitors are advised to call first. The telephone number is 521-2307.

Puerto Princesa Subterranean River in New 7 Wonders of Nature

New 7 Wonders of NaturePuerto Princesa Subterranean River in Palawan has successfully landed on the top 77 nominees on the New 7 Wonders of Nature (N7WN) international poll. Organizers of the N7WN reported that the top 77 were chosen out of the 261 contenders, after the second phase of the worldwide voting ended in July 7, 2009.

"The success of this campaign wouldn't have been possible without the Filipinos' worldwide support.  We are grateful to the people who voted and heeded our call to promote one of our national treasures," said Tourism Secretary Ace Durano.

According to the N7WN report, from the top 77 nominees, only 28 Official Finalists will be chosen by the N7WN's Panel of Experts.  The announcement of the 28 selected finalists will be made in Zurich at the New7Wonders Foundation headquarters on July 21, 2009 at 12.07 GMT.
